La idea es que la información no se transmite más rápido que la velocidad de la luz. Lo mismo pasa con la velocidad aparente superlumínica en nucleos activos de galaxias (AGNs).

Segundo, el asunto del palo es bastante más complicado, porque en realidad estás tratando con un sólido rígido y las partículas que forman el palo tendrían que transmitir la información de que el extremo en la Tierra se está moviendo. En ese caso, la información no se puede propagar y no funcionaría (vamos, que se rompería).
¿Has visto el video del muelle que se deja soltar desde una cierta altura y a cámara lenta se ve que al extremo de abajo aún no llega la información de que la fuerza Tensión ya no existe y, hasta que llega, parece que ése extremo levita? Algo así pasaría con el palo, así que se acabaría rompiendo sí o sí.
