Las polillas de la ropa (Tineola bisselliella, Tinea pellionella, Trichophaga tapetzella) se alimentan de subproductos animales: lana, pieles, plumas,... todos con base de queratina. Pueden llegar a comer tejidos sintéticos o algodón si están mezclados con fibras animales. Sólo se alimentan las larvas. Los adultos tienen el sistema digestivo atrofiado y son malos voladores. Viendo su alimentación actual me decantaría por que originariamente se alimentasen de los residuos de cadáveres: piel y pelos. En definitiva, serían necrófagos especializados en eliminar los componentes de queratina de los animales muertos. |
